𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: Sunghoon has never felt any spark in his heart, none of that silly love he’s read about in novels in his free time. No one interested him, and it wasn’t like his father, the king, would let him have friends, male or female, for fear of being betrayed or developing feelings for them. He lived a life of isolation, excited for nothing – neither the idea of being married to a pretty princess nor becoming the next ruler of the Park kingdom. He most certainly did not expect you, his new guard, to change all that. He did not expect you to brighten his days and light up his heart.
includes: death, murder, war/battle, attempted murder (kinda), breaking in, royal au, romanticized medieval setting of sorts, forced marriage/proposal, a lot of time skips so it moves somewhat quickly, brief mention of a toxic ex, death by illness, joking mention of jumping off a balcony, blood, wounds, denial of death kinda, graves, lmk if i missed anything!
genre: angst
pairing: prince! sunghoon x guard! fem! reader
word count: 8.1k (woah)
taglist: @kflixnet @kpopslays @jvjsssnaa a/n: it’s finally here! i sacrificed sleep for this and i do not regret it at all. this fic has two milestones for me - being my longest fic + a fic i’m kinda proud of. i hope you all enjoy it as much as i did writing it <3
PLEASE REBLOG/COMMENT IF YOU ENJOYED THIS FIC 🫶

Sunghoon was reading over some papers pertaining to the kingdom’s matters when he heard a knock on the door.
“Enter.”
One of the guards came in, before bowing upon seeing him.
“Sire, his Majesty wishes to see you.”
He nodded and set the papers in a neat stack. He then put them in a drawer and locked it for security. He then stood up and followed the guard, maintaining a neutral expression.
His mind was working much faster than normal though.
His father was very strict, and the slightest mistake meant an extremely harsh lecture. He flicked through his memories, trying to remember what he could have done wrong, and what he should say as his apology.
He pursed his lips as a thought crossed his mind - was his recent trip to the colder regions made known to his father? He had gone for administrative work, but he couldn’t resist spending some time there ice skating, which the king always considered useless since it benefited only the person skating, not the country. He had done his best to keep it under wraps, but maybe one of the guards reported this to the king. Damn it.
He mentally slapped himself for using such crude language. Those were the words of peasants and did not suit a prince like him. Holy moly…buckling barnacles, great heavens…such lengthy words to express frustration, he thought. ‘Damn it’ was only two syllables.
As he snapped out of his reverie, he entered the Throne Room. His father was seated on the grand throne at the end of the airy space. The seats where the ministers sat were empty. Court was always in the morning, and it was probably lunchtime by now - the prince wasn’t sure.
He stood a few feet away from his father. The guard bowed and left, and Sunghoon made eye contact with the old man in front of him. He didn’t seem angry, so the younger relaxed a bit, letting out a sigh.
“Why have you called me here, father?”
“I’ve received some proposals from other kings. They’ve sent me paintings of their daughters. A lovely selection of princesses, I must say.”
Sunghoon had to physically hold himself back from rolling his eyes.
“Father, I’ve already told you this. I am not ready for marriage and I am not interested in this topic.”
“Yes, but it’s good to start early. Maybe you’ll change your mind after-”
“I’m sorry to interrupt you Father, but why have you actually summoned me?”
The king narrowed his eyes at his son but didn’t say anything more about the topic.
“Well, I’ve decided to get you a personal guard. There have been many threats of attacks on the palace, so it’s better to take this precaution.”
“Interesting. Will he be with me all the time or-”
“She.”
“What?”
“Your guard is a female.”
To say he was shocked was the understatement of the century. His father? Hiring a woman? As his bodyguard? What if he-
“Are you serious?” “Yes. She is very capable and I’m sure she will protect and serve you well. I trust you to keep your relationship with her strictly professional.”
It wasn’t like he knew how to have a non-professional relationship with anyone outside of his family anyway.
“Yes, Father. Will she be with me at all times?”
“Indeed she will, except for when you are sleeping. At that time, she will stand outside your door and guard you.” “What about her food and sleep?”
“That is not your concern.”
“But-”
“Silence!”
He immediately bowed his head slightly as a sign of remorse for stepping out of line. This was going to be interesting, he thought. He had little to no interaction with women outside of his mother and sister, and the small talk he made with princesses and duchesses of other kingdoms was always awkward. Now he was having someone of the opposite gender, a woman, watching over him nearly 24/7.
He slowed down his train of thought. Why was he thinking like a teenage boy ogling over a girl? He was the crown prince, he was better than that. It was going to be a new experience, that was all.
“May I meet her now?”
“Of course. She’s arriving as we speak.”
Just then, the door opened, and you entered, a male soldier on either side. Sunghoon’s mouth opened and closed like a fish, but nothing came out of it.
He was having a cultural shock of sorts. All the women he had met were all dainty, graceful and poised - the epitome of perfection. You, on the other hand, had an air of authority about you — rough and firm. A few scars were on your face, probably from battle. You bowed the full 90 degrees, and he could only respond with a small nod.
Oh fuck, you were gorgeous.
And he used foul language again. Stupid Sunghoon, he reprimanded himself.
He didn’t take back what he said, however. Your beauty wasn’t the type written in books or sung in ballads, but it had to be known to the world, somehow. He was almost tempted to write one himself.
Hold on, why was he thinking all this? His father had just told him to not think anything about you that crossed the lines of professional, and thinking about how pretty you were was not within those lines.
“This is your new personal guard, Y/N.”
You came over to him and bowed again, although at a smaller angle than before.
“N…Nice to meet you, Y-Y/N.”
Did he just stutter?!
“It is an honor, my prince. I swear to serve you to the best of my abilities.”
“I’m sure you will.”
He managed a small, formal smile, looking completely pleasant and unfazed.
Which he very much was not. He wanted to jump off the nearest balcony when you said ‘my prince’. He didn’t know why - you weren’t the only one who addressed him in that manner. You might’ve even learned it from someone in the palace, so why was he so hot and bothered with the way you said it?
“Your duties start today, guard.”
“Yes, your Majesty. I will not let you down.”
He was going crazy. You were just his new guard. Nothing less, nothing more. He would just have to rein in his thoughts and get it all together. Not a difficult task at all.
Tumblr media
As you stood behind him as he walked through the kingdom’s streets a week later, he seemed to keep a little distance from you, which was unsafe. Anything could happen within a few meters.
“My prince, you must slow your pace.”
He turned his face to look at you as he stopped walking.
“Oh? Why is that?”
“There’s a gap between us, and anyone could attack you with that.”
“Ah. I see. In that case…you can walk next to me. Or something.”
You stood next to him now. He quickly looked at the fruits a vendor was selling, trying his best to avert his gaze so that you wouldn’t see his reddening cheeks. It was unknown to him as to why he was so flustered. You were only doing your job, and that was it.
“Our kingdom seems to produce good crops.”
“Indeed they do, my prince. The farmer and the cultivators work very hard. It always seems to go unnoticed for some damn reason, though.”
He heard the angry tone in your voice and the curse word you said. This seemed to be a sore topic for you. He was curious, so he decided to ask more.
“What do you suggest, then?”
“We export more crops so that they get more revenue and in turn, they get paid as well. Increase the demand.”
You shrugged before turning your attention to a little kid who was clinging to your leg. You leaned down and patted his head, smiling a bit. The kid laughed and ran away. Sunghoon watched this interaction with interest and it dawned upon him that you cared about the people and their welfare, like a good ruler.
Wait, why was he thinking about you being a ruler? You were only a soldier, and with the hierarchy now, there wasn’t much chance you could become more.
It did make him wonder, however, what you would do if the people rebelled. He shook his head, not wanting to think so dark. Your suggestion was smart, though. It made more sense the more he pondered over it. He’d mention this to the old man and see what he’d say.
“Shall we move on, guard?”
You stood up properly before nodding.
“Yes, my prince. Apologies for slowing you down.”
He dismissed you with a wave of his hand.
“Nothing of the sort. Come, let’s go.”
You both continued your stroll and for some reason, his heart was beating very unnaturally. He only had this issue when he was agitated, but there was no reason for him to be scared now, so why was this happening?
Tumblr media
It had only been two months since you became his personal guard, yet you were his closest and most trusted friend. He took all your ideas seriously and told them to the king who somehow accepted them, and called him ‘ingenious’ for supposedly coming up with them. He hated taking false credit, but he knew that he couldn’t tell his father that you were the mastermind of them all — he would then question Sunghoon as to why he was talking to them in the first place, which would lead to you being removed from your post and replaced with a boring male soldier.
He didn’t want to lose you, not when he finally found a change in his monotonous life, someone to brighten his dull days, someone to call a friend, even though it was only known to the both of you and no one else. He couldn’t bear to have you gone.
He was sitting underneath a tree, looking up at the sky in the comfort of the gardens reserved for his family and visitors alone. His father never came here out of his own accord - he always considered it a waste of time. His mother was in her room, and her sister was in another kingdom discussing alliances. This was a moment very rare, just you and him, with no one to interrupt or catch you two slacking.
You were sitting next to him, only a few inches away. The wind was blowing gently on his face. He closed his eyes and smiled, inhaling and exhaling deeply. Your presence next to him was oddly comforting. He opened his eyes again, turned his head, and looked at you, wanting to ask you something.
“Guard, you know how I always give your suggestions to the king and how he always says ‘I’ did a good job thinking about them?”
Your face tightened the same way it did every time he took credit for your ideas in front of his father. He sighed.
“Yes, I do.”
“Well, I wanted to apologize for that.”
You tilted your head at him, clearly not understanding two things - why he was suddenly saying sorry, and how you doing that simple thing made him go insane. You took over him, body and soul. All he could think of when he tried to sleep was you. It was just two months. Two months, and he was already attached to you. He was convinced, however, that it wasn’t love or anything stupid like that. No, it was simply him forming a close connection to the first person who cared about him. Not everything was romantic affection. He had never tasted this emotion, obviously, but he’d say that he knew enough about it to confirm this wasn’t it.
“Why now, my prince? I’m sorry- I just didn’t expect you to, y’know…actually apologize. Never met a royal who’s done so. They’re all usually stuck-up snobs who think their shit is worth the entire kingdom.”
He snorted at that. It wasn’t like you were wrong, most of the royals he met were indeed very arrogant. He didn’t dare anything about it though, simply doing his best to not behave like them.
“It’s not right of me to take credit for something I don’t even have the brain for. I don’t mention your name for your security. If my father knew I was talking to you about matters like these, then…”
He made a motion of him cutting his own throat, complete with the sound effect. You grinned a bit, which was enough for him to be over the moon, but then you laughed. Not just a ‘teehee’ or a ‘haha’ - an actual, proper laugh. His heart swelled, maybe his jokes didn’t suck that much. Your laugh was indescribable. It was a delightful sound to listen to. It was short, but he wanted to hear it every day at least once for the rest of his life instead of those ballads that were sung in the court all the time.
The way your eyes formed crescents, the way your face was half in the light and half in the shadow, the way the wind put an orange leaf in your hair like it was an accessory - it was making him sick in a good way. He rarely saw you smile, let alone laugh like this. He knew that you had to keep your expression serious all the time - all the soldiers had that training - and this was a proud moment for him to see you loosen up. He couldn’t help the small smile on his own face.
“My prince, is he really that harsh? I’m aware that he is super damn strict to us soldiers, but that’s expected since we have to be toughened up to protect the land.”
His smile faded before he shook his head in agreement.
“I’d say so. It’s for my good- I am the next in line, after all.”
“I don’t think forcing your child to have no friends is how you raise him to be king. He won’t know how to have proper social interactions.”
There you were again, hitting the mark accurately with your observation. He sucked at interacting with other people. Slowly, he was starting to dislike his father more. The faults he never saw in him earlier were becoming visible, the saint-like image he had of the king since childhood fading away. Was this meant to happen? He wasn’t sure.
“Right. I’m living proof.”
You shook your head in alarm.
“Oh shit- please don’t be offended by my idiotic statement, my prince…I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean it like that, really-”
He chuckled at how you were panicking and made a motion with his hand for you to calm down.
“It’s okay. I didn’t take it that way.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
He saw your body relax as he rested his head against the bark of the tree again. He gazed at the sky, eyes fixated on the clouds and the way they moved in the direction of the breeze. Two questions lingered in his mind, and his mouth suddenly blurted one out.
“Do you ever sleep?”
It was random, sure, but he had to know. He was concerned for you. He never saw you leave his side, except for when he was asleep, and he already knew what you did then. You were still staring at him, but he didn’t notice.
“I do. I’m a normal person, my prince, I can’t function without food and rest. That’s impossible.”
“When?”
You let out a slight laugh at his curiosity, and his heart started pounding faster again.
“You don’t notice, do you? That means I’m performing the stealth part of my job well. When you’re in the dining room or a meeting surrounded by the best soldiers. That’s when. I also don’t stand watch for you every night. I alternate with another guard.”
His mouth formed an ‘o’ shape in understanding. He didn’t notice it at all, which meant that either you were a master of stealth, as you said, or he was just blind. It was most likely the former since he had no doubt in your abilities.
“I see. I was very worried for you, honestly.”
“I’m honored that I was an object of your concern, my prince.”
He scoffed at your slightly surprised expression.
“Of course, I would. You’re my personal guard, what reason is there for me to treat you inhumanly?”
That stupid fucking slip of his tongue.
Shit, he just cursed.
Damn it, again.
His tutor and family would go crazy if they could read his thoughts.
Of course he had to refer to you as his, like you were property. Of course he had to emphasize on that word as well. You were making him loosen up too much. It shouldn’t have happened, not at all. He couldn’t continue like this, what if he accidentally cursed in front of people? He would never be heard of again.
“I’d say I had expected that, but you’re different from other royals, so not really.”
“I understand. Also, you don’t have to call me ‘my prince’ when we’re alone. Just Sunghoon is enough.”
Your eyes widened in astonishment.
“My prince, I wouldn’t dare to-”
“Really guard. It’s fine.”
“But his Majesty-”
“He doesn’t have to know. Our secret.”
“If you say so…it’ll take me time to get used to calling you by your name, princ- I mean, Sunghoon.”
“Already getting there.”
“I guess so. In that case, you can call me by just my name. No need for ‘guard’.”
“Your wish is my command, Y/N.”
This was new. Not referring to someone by their title was disrespectful. He learned from a ripe young age that if he didn’t call someone by their title, he could end up with his head on a guillotine block in some places. Were you seriously making all his long years of education unravel? Silence fell upon the two of you before he spoke up again.
“What do you think love is like?”
You must’ve been taken aback, and he expected to see such an expression on your face. Instead, when he stole a glance at you, it was something else. Wistful? Longing? He couldn’t name it exactly.
“Books don’t give it justice. Neither do ballads. It’s…more than that.”
He was intrigued by your response. He raised an eyebrow, signalling you to continue.
“Oh? You’ve been in love before?”
You stared at him, a sad smile forming on your lips, a look flashing in your eyes. One of remorse, he recognized.
“Yeah. It was depressingly…beautiful.”
His chest tightened at your words for some reason.
“Heartbreak?”
“Kind of. We fought a lot…our personalities were very different. Then when we finally reconciled…he died. An illness took him away.”
Your eyes were filled with so much hurt, it almost made him cry. This was his first time seeing you emotional, vulnerable, and while he was honored that you trusted him enough to show you this side of yours, he wondered how much you were hiding away. All he wanted was to protect you so that you would never have to go through something as painful as that. He made a resolve to make sure that he was never the cause of the agony in your eyes.
“I’m so sorry that happened.”
“It’s fine. It was just- unexpected. It’s been a year anyway.”
“I hope this doesn’t bring back memories you buried, but…how would you describe love?”
You rested your chin on your palm, thinking for a bit.
“Love isn’t only about the physical signs. For me, love is always wanting to be by someone’s side, being so head over heels for them that even the littlest things like…I don’t know, something stupid, makes you remember them. It’s being their biggest supporter, but also telling them when they’re wrong. Love is wanting to keep them safe from all the bad in this world. It’s when even the simplest thing they do brightens your day, like a smile or a small act of kindness. Love is when you put their needs and wants above everything and everyone else. There’s obviously more, but that’s my personal experience.”
Holy moly. Sunghoon was in love.
He was in love. That emotion many desired to feel at least once. All his previous notions and confidence about it being platonic flew out the window. He very clearly did not learn enough about this feeling. He didn’t know whether he wanted to be happy that he could say he had loved once in his life, or scream in frustration that he fell for someone out of his league and not some princess who he was supposed to want like this.
God, he hated himself.
“Pri- Sunghoon, are you okay?”
Your voice snapped him out of his thoughts. He couldn’t let you know, he was a hundred percent sure that you didn’t feel the same. Plus, he was the prince, and if you both were caught, it would mean bad for him and catastrophic for you.
“I’m fine. Come, let’s go. We might get caught if we stay any longer.”
He stood up immediately. You were confused but followed his orders. What he said, you obeyed.
Tumblr media
It had been eight months since you became his personal guard, and half a year since he realized that he was in love with you. He tried to distance himself, but one look or word from you and his resolve faltered. He was so deep in this pit, and he didn’t know whether he wanted to dig deeper or climb out. He wanted you to stay away and he also loved the way you destroyed every single one of the walls he built around himself subconsciously.
He matured, and he was no longer the shy boy who didn’t know how to talk to someone of the opposite gender. He was a confident and charming crown prince now, the man of many’s dreams. You were the only one on his mind though.
His father was now eager to get him married off, and he had to comply with his wishes, He was no longer the king who served the people anymore - he was corrupted, only thinking about power. Sunghoon did his best to undo the damage inflicted on the population, but the situation was getting tense, and he knew it. Rebels were raising their heads and it was his job to keep them in check. It was difficult, but you helped him through it.
Presently, he was sitting in the dining room with his family, the king, queen, princess, and officials of the Hwan kingdom. This was the proposal his father liked the most because the Hwan kingdom was rich in resources, and this alliance hidden as a marriage would give the Parks access to those coveted precious stones. He was hoping, however, that the other king would say no for some reason and he’d be free.
He had no interest in the princess, however. She was too boring for him. They had zero common likes, and the only thing they related to each other on was the struggles of being next in line. This was probably the worst match he had ever met. She seemed like she wanted this much less than he did. She was at least trying, he had to give her that.
You stood behind him on his right side. He so desperately wanted to turn around and see your reaction to all this. Your face had to have no expression now, obviously, but you both shared secret looks with each other in odd situations, and he was sure you’d find this amusing. The chatter across the table died down suddenly, and all the attention was on the two kings in the room.
“We’ve agreed on this marriage. Prince Sunghoon and Princess Hyeju are now betrothed!”
Sunghoon’s hands, which were tapping the table, stilled. He froze in shock, every voluntary muscle in his body stopping movement.
No, this couldn’t happen.
This was a nightmare, a terrible dream. He pinched his thigh underneath the table and ended up proving to his dismay that he was wrong.
This was the worst day of his life.
His father droned on about the details of the wedding. He tuned it all out. He tilted his head just a little to see your face and noticed that you were gripping your spear much tighter than necessary. You knew that he didn’t want this, not at all. Maybe you were angry on his behalf.
He couldn’t do anything about this, however. This was just his fate, and he resigned to it immediately.
The meeting ended, and everyone, including Sunghoon, stood up and exited the room. You followed him as he went straight to the gardens to clear his head. His family would be occupied with entertaining the guests and making more plans, so it was just you and him. Again.
He sat in his usual spot underneath the same tree. He buried his face in his hands, frustrated. He heard the sound of you sitting down next to him, before feeling your hand lightly grip his shoulder.
“Hey, Sunghoon?”
“You don’t have to say anything. It’s fine.”
“I know how much you don’t want this. Trust me, I don’t want it either.”
The second sentence was uttered in a more quiet voice, and he moved his hands away from his face to look at you in confusion.
“What do you mean?”
Your lips formed a thin line, your body language making it clear that you were saying this with hesitation.
“I don’t want you to marry her.”
You removed your hand from his shoulder. You looked down at the grass, fresh and green from the new spring season.
“Why? I mean- other than me not wanting it personally, there’s no reason you should hate it…this is an amazing opportunity for the people and the kingdom! We will prosper-”
“Fuck the people and the kingdom- I want you, dumbass.”
His eyes widened, and his jaw dropped.
“Whatdo you mean.”
“I love you really badly. That’s what I mean.”
He couldn’t believe it. You, the very person he always desired desperately, his forbidden fruit, loved him back? Wanted him? This wasn’t real. He must’ve been knocked out after the marriage announcement and slipped into a pleasant dream.
“I don’t believe you.”
“You want me to prove it?”
“Yes.”
He didn’t know what to expect, but you grabbing his face and crashing your lips on his was the farthest from his vague idea of what might happen.
It lasted for a few seconds before you pulled away suddenly. You noticed his dazed expression and started to panic.
“Shit, shouldn’t have done that, please don’t kill me, I-”
Your voice snapped him out of his haze before he placed his hand on your waist and pulled you in for another kiss. His hand tucked one strand of hair behind your ear and you melted into the action, calming down instantly. He was so gentle, so careful, he was holding you like you were a delicate object that was to be treated with utmost care at all times. When you both parted, his face wore a lovesick smile, his eyes sparkling like stars.
“I feel the same.”
“Yeah, it was obvious.”
He chuckled at your comment, before frowning.
“You know this is dangerous, right? We shouldn’t be doing this.”
Your shoulders slumped at his words, knowing that he was completely correct.
“I do. I’m sorry for dragging you into this mess. I just didn’t…know how to tell you.”
He shook his head. To him, you could do no wrong. It was his fault. He should have gotten rid of you so that he could nip the blooming flower in his heart from the bud. He shouldn’t have been such a coward.
“I understand what you mean now. I don’t know how to stop it, though.”
“That’s…fine. Just knowing you feel the same is enough for me.”
It wasn’t. Neither for you, neither for him, and you both knew that. The fact that he couldn’t be yours and you couldn’t be his simply because of both of your duties was like a nasty, sharp torn ledged in the soft flesh of his heart. You and him were not meant to be. Your romance was only a fantasy, to be never fulfilled.
“Precisely. This is all it’ll ever be.”
Tumblr media
It was night. He had one week until his wedding with the Hwan princess, and he was dreading it. Seeing your face became unbearable for him sometimes — you reminded him that he had everything a commoner could only dream of, but even the poorest of poor could love and he couldn’t. He was ready to throw his entire life away and disappear with you, but his fear of what would happen next to the country held him back.
He stared out the window in his bedroom which gave him a perfect view of the private gardens. The place where it all started and ended. The moonlight shone on the trees and flowers, giving it a peaceful aura, different from the cheery one it had in the daytime. Even in the comfort of his silk night clothes and soft blankets, he was in a state of unrest. He wanted to run, wanted to be free, wanted, wanted, wanted. He lay down, resting his head on his pillow as he waited for sleep to find him while he closed his eyes. Thankfully, the night was kind to him, and he dozed off almost instantly.
Sunghoon was rudely woken up by you frantically shaking his figure, pleading with you to wake up. When he came to his senses, he heard alarms sounding in the palace and immediately understood that it was an emergency, although what might’ve exactly happened was beyond him.
“Y/N, Y/N, I’m up. What’s going on?”
He sat up in bed, rubbing his eyes and slapping his face for good measure.
“Rebels. Come, we need to run.”
The first word was enough for him to be fully alert. He foresaw them coming, so it wasn’t a big shocker for him. He put on his slippers and looked at you with determination. He was actually trying to mask his fear, but you didn’t need to know that. You grabbed his arm and ran out of the room. He was a bit startled at your speed at first, but quickly matched your pace. When you both reached a corridor, you slowed down, wanting to be careful of surprise attacks.
“Hide your face to the best of your ability. I’m not sure if they’ll recognize you in non-prince clothes, but it’s better to be safe. They’ll aim for me instead since I have the palace uniform.”
His chest tightened. You were ready to give up your life for his. He knew that was protocol for all soldiers - royals over their own lives. He knew, but you were different. He didn’t want you to die, he couldn’t imagine a life without you. You were his oxygen, he’d suffocate if you were gone.
Suddenly, he noticed a flash of light. He heard a whoosh and he saw the way your hair moved in the direction of the sound. He assumed it was a gust of air along with the lights of the palace shining weirdly, but then he looked at the wall in front of him and realized what it was - an arrow. It was embedded in said wall, and you had missed it by a hair’s breath. Literally. It had scratched your face, but other than that, you were fine.
You pulled him down to remain on the floor, before you stood up and ran to the rebel that shot it, your hands gripping your sword tight. You engaged in combat with her. She was rather buff, and even though she only had a bow and an arrow holder on her, she was slowly gaining ground in the fight. She was blocking your thrusts with her bow, catching your moves with its string. She landed a harsh blow on your chest, and he gritted his teeth seeing your sharp flinch. He had to do something and fast.
He crawl-walked across the floor, making sure to stay unnoticed. He moved to stand behind the rebel before forcefully grabbing her neck. She was gagged, and the sudden lack of air caught her off guard. You took the opportunity and struck her in the heart, and he let go of her.
You both ran off, eager to get to the safe room specially built for situations like this. Barely some distance away, he raised his head, neck aching from the constant strain, when you suddenly pushed him to the ground and covered his mouth with your hand. He was about to protest, feeling kind of hot and bothered with his position, but then he decided against it. You definitely did this for a reason, and he could repress his feelings for a while.
Your head turned as you stared at a rebel passing by, praying he wouldn’t notice you both. He was blind to your movement thankfully, and as soon as he left, you got off of Sunghoon, pulled him up, and ran. You pushed the door of the safe room which was behind a cupboard open with your shoulder, and he then realized that he was the first one to reach. The door closed, and he glanced at you, relief and gratitude clear in his eyes.
You gave him a thumbs up and turned to leave to assist the other soldiers with getting the rest of his family to the room when he suddenly grabbed your wrist. You looked at him with confusion, and you opened your mouth to ask him what he was doing when he placed his lips on yours. You let out a soft gasp when he held you closer, one arm around your waist, the other hand on your back, holding you close. This wasn’t like the last time you kissed — this was desperate, filled with emotion. He let go of you too soon, eyes shining with tears.
You both knew that there was a chance you wouldn’t come back to him, and this could be the last time he saw you.
You squeezed his hand in an attempt to reassure him. He just nodded at the door, knowing that you had your duty. You bowed and left as he watched you in fear, praying that you’d make it.

After the attack by the rebels, there were always new questions about the palace’s security floating around. Quite a few lives were lost. None of them were you or his family, but Sunghoon still grieved for them mentally. He couldn’t imagine the agony their families must’ve been going through, and he managed to convince his father to give all the deceased’s close relatives compensation.
The wedding was called off for now, much to his delight and his father’s despair. The old man had accused him of doing something to sabotage it, but he had grown a thicker skin, thanks to you. All efforts were now being put into strengthening the forces of the kingdom, and the actual matters of state were being ignored. This would lead to more rebellion, but his father didn’t seem to care. At this rate, he could die if he stepped out of the palace grounds — the people hated him that much. Sunghoon was already preparing to become the next ruler since that future would become a reality pretty soon.
A surprise attack was inevitable, but he didn’t expect the aggressor to be the damn Hwan kingdom.
They must’ve heard about the damage inflicted on the palace from spies and knew that the Park kingdom would be focusing its efforts on repairing it, thus taking advantage of the situation. It was smart of king Hwan, Sunghoon would give him that.
He rode his horse while inspecting the soldiers preparing for battle. None of them were properly ready for this. Many veteran soldiers were on break and were called back suddenly. They all did come, and he was grateful to them for that, even when they had the right to refuse. The troops were arranging their positions quickly, and a little bit of his anxiety relaxed. Their army was strong, they could face this.
As he rode back, he saw his father, who was seething with rage at being betrayed, Sunghoon’s brain was in overdrive. Many of these brave soldiers would sacrifice their body and soul for a stupid fight that wouldn’t bring much to the land that could have been easily prevented. He knew it would happen, but didn’t do anything that was enough to fix it. He couldn’t keep falling short of what was necessary, that wasn’t what a future king would do.
Not wanting to talk to the old man, he rode a little further where you were on your own horse, surveying the battlefield. He relaxed a bit more upon seeing you and moved to be next to you.
“This will be a tough fight, Sunghoon.”
“I hope it remains a fight that ends today and not a war that stretches over days.”
“Where we are victorious.”
“Obviously.”
“My- Sunghoon, what will you do in case your father…is killed?”
The slip-up and the way ‘my Sunghoon’ rolled off your tongue so perfectly made him miss your actual question for a moment. He let out a soft giggle, before manning up to think. He hadn’t considered that possibility at all. If that happened, then he would automatically become the next king. He’d rule the land and hopefully lead better than the previous king and his reign would be peaceful. He’d make sure of that.
“Be the next ruler, of course. I’d promote you to my personal advisor.”
You cracked a small smile at that.
“Not enough brain. Plus, what if I don’t make it?”
“Won’t happen. You’re too sexy to die. Your abilities are top tier too, you’ll survive.”
You laughed now, and he smiled fully at you. This was a situation unheard of — right before a whole battle, he was here flirting with you and laughing. So very serious.
He leaned his head closer to yours, hair falling over his eyes. They were pleading silently with you to steal one last kiss, one last secret gesture of love before you both left to fight, one last chance to hold you. You shortened the gap, about to comply, when the war horn sounded, signaling the start of the battle. He frowned, angry at the lost chance, but quickly kissed your forehead. You pecked his cheek in return, before putting on your helmet and riding off.
The sound of hooves hitting the ground and the sight of dust flying from them brought him back into the moment, and he rode in the same direction as his own army, intending to lead the fight. His father was weak and made dumb decisions, so it was up to him. He moved directly to the frontlines, pulling out his sword from its hilt as an enemy soldier charged at him. He fought with ease, and soon a dead body was on the ground.
He should have been desensitized now upon seeing gore and corpses, but it still disgusted him. He gritted his teeth and averted his gaze as he parried with more enemies. Soldiers were dropping left and right from both sides. Blood splatters were on his own face from fighting so fiercely. It was a miracle that he was still standing with only minor injuries, the Hwan soldiers were vigorous.
Time was passing quickly, although for him it felt like an eternity. He just wanted to go back after all this ended. He didn’t care if he had to marry the Hwan princess, all he wanted was for this bloodshed to end. The sound of arrows being shot, horses neighing, grunts of hurt and dying soldiers — it was all too much for him.
All of a sudden, a more experienced soldier was attacking him, he could tell by the moves. His entire focus was on fighting back because this guy could actually kill him, that much was clear. He didn’t notice the other soldier charging towards him from his left with a spear until he heard a clang.
His eyes darted in the direction of the sound for a second, only to see you had blocked the attack and thrown the soldier off his horse. He was impressed and inspired by you, and with renewed strength, he killed the veteran. He gave you a thumbs up, before looking to his right as someone else ran to replace the deceased soldier. He was ready to fight that person and everyone else with you and for you.
Then, tragedy struck.
An arrow was heading in his direction. Occupied with the current fight he was in, Sunghoon was in no position to dodge it, and you took the blow. Pushing his horse with your own, the arrow lodged in your chest instead. The only reason he noticed it was because of the sound of pain you made. He finished off the man fighting him, and then turned his head to look at you. Your head was drooping slightly and your grip on the reins of your horse had faltered.
No, no, no, this can’t happen!
You were supposed to stay with him, you were supposed to be by his side forever, he was supposed to get more chances to love you, even in secret, not just lose you like this.
He immediately shoved his sword back in its hilt before grabbing your torso to steady you. You were very faintly there, you just had to keep going a bit more for him, and he knew you could.
“Y/N, hold on, okay? Don’t close your eyes, please.”
“Try…ing.”
Fuck, your voice was so weak, you really were trying. He’d end your suffering soon, he promised silently.
Coincidentally, the war horn sounded once more, signifying the end of the battle. It was his kingdom’s, which meant he had won, just like you wanted.
But you weren’t conscious enough to realize it.
He promptly sat you on his horse in front of him, one arm around your waist holding you close and tight. He galloped fast to the palace medic, the best one in the entire region. He ignored the weird looks and the shouts of his name, traveling with urgency. He had to move fast for your sake, and also for his own. He’d lose his shit if you…no. You weren’t going to, he was sure of it.
“Try to not focus on the pain, we’re almost there.”
That was stupid advice, but he had to say something, anything to save him.
“This doctor will fix you up, I swear. Just- don’t give up yet, Y/N. I beg of you. It’s all I’ll ask for this badly from you.”
Your head was now tilted back, and it rested on his right shoulder. You opened your eyes slightly to look at him, which he took as a good sign.
Then you spoke.
“I won’t…won’t make it. It’s…no point…denying it…my…Hoon, I…love you.”
At your words, Sunghoon’s lips formed a thin line as he squeezed his eyes shut for a few seconds to force his tears to stay back. He could feel the blood running from your wound and collecting onto the sleeve of his suit, but he refused to accept it. You would make it, you couldn’t die.
“Shut-Shut up. You’re not dying, not when I’m here. Look, we’ve reached- you’ll be okay, I swear.”
He got off the horse, your limp body in his arms bridal style.
He wished he could be holding you like this in a different, more happier situation.
The doctor rushed out of her house and knew that it was urgent upon seeing the prince at her door. She took you in and he waited outside, pacing around nervously. He was so certain you’d survive, but the wound could be a major setback for the rest of your life. He’d have to make adjustments to accommodate you at the palace. He wouldn’t mind though, it was for you after all.
The doctor came out after a few minutes, and he waited for her to say something along the lines of ‘she survived, but ___’. Not to see her shake her head with a soft sigh.
“I’m sorry. She didn’t make it. She was gone when you came here. We tried our best, but…the arrow was poison tipped, which reduced her chances of surviving to zero.”
No. No no no no no. This lady was old and wrinkling, she was probably cuckoo and playing an unfunny prank on him.
“Can I see her? Alone?”
“Of course, sire.”
He rushed inside immediately, expecting to see you on the bed bandaged up and smiling at how well the prank worked on him-
She was right. You really were gone. You took your last breath in his arms. Your arms rested limply by your sides. The arrow was removed, but the blood stains were on your armor as evidence that the fatal injury did indeed happen. Useful reminder for a delusional ass like his. Your helmet was off your head now.
He sat down on a chair next to your bed and held one of your hands gingerly. It was already turning cold, and he hated it. He felt freshly made cuts and bruises along with older scars on your palm. His gaze fell on your face. The scratch you got from the rebel’s ambush was still partially healing. He took in your features with intense concentration, engraving them in his memory. He despised the fact that you looked so much at peace right now – when you just left his entire life in turmoil. He needed so badly to shake you back to life or something, but he knew that there was no point now. He lifted your hand up to his lips, kissing it in a tender manner, a weak replacement for the one you both missed maybe an hour or two before.
Just when he let go of your hand, the doctor rushed in with news.
“Sire, his majesty has passed away due to a…similar poisonous arrow shortly after victory.”
Both the people he knew wanted to win the most were dead just after it happened. Ironic, he thought - this was worthless now.

King Sunghoon walked through the cemetery for soldiers who had sacrificed their lives for the country. He stopped right in front of one which had many flower bouquets, a lot of them from his own previous visits, all of them your favorite flowers. He got on his knees on the right side of your gravestone, head bowed in respect and hands folded in his lap.
“Hello, Y/N. I know I’ve come to see you many times before, but I can’t help it. I miss you so much. You left too soon. I still believe that I should have taken that arrow instead of you…although it was for the better in hindsight. At least your last memory was of me and your pain ended quickly.”
Silence. He quickly wiped his eyes.
“I love you, Y/N. I still do, so much. I should move on by now, but it’s hard. Not when you meant so much to me, not when you changed me. A little for the worse, mostly for the better.”
He laughed dryly, looking at his hands. An expensive ring gleamed on his ring finger.
“I married a queen who I liked a lot. Not the Hwan princess, although she and I keep in touch often. We’re allies now. Kind of ironic, since I lost you and the old man in a war against that same kingdom’s old ruler.”
He wasn’t willing to let himself break, what if someone walked in on him sobbing over a dead soldier's grave? What would they think? He poked his eyes with his fingers, still in misery. No matter how much he tried, everything in his brain led back to you. While he didn’t want you to fade or leave his mind exactly, you were only meant to be a guest, visiting occasionally, not a permanent resident, not someone he still needed. When he calmed down, he quietly lifted his crown off his head and put it on top of your gravestone. He placed a solemn hand on it, closing his eyes. “This is a love stained crown, tainted with you and I, along with all our memories. Your affection will never wash away, no matter how much I try. I miss you and I love you, and I hope you’re doing better, wherever you are.”

Park Sunghoon in my dreams pt.1
Tumblr media
In this dream, I can say that it is not very clear to me what role any of us present play. I was in the world of the Game of Thrones series, but it was all like the filming of the series, breaking the fourth wall. Some actors/characters were there and specifically, it was the family of House Stark. (For me, this fact makes sense because since I started stanning ENHYPEN, I always had the feeling that Sunghoon looks like what the Bran Stark actor seemed to be in the first season). I have to add that the events narrated here do not have much to do with the series at all. In my dream, we had been at war for a long time and I don't remember what was happening, someone tried to attack me when I was distracted and he came to save me. He takes my arm and we run up some stairs towards a wall that was surrounded by trees and undergrowth. Behind the wall there was a castle in which they had set up the dressing rooms and control rooms. When we get inside the castle, I pull his arm for a moment and make him turn around. So I said something like "Let's take advantage now that no one sees us". Then I approach him and proceed to kiss him with a lot of passion, really. Then the situation changes a little because the castle was also a kind of school in which there was an arts classroom and we went there to paint parasol umbrellas with other young actors.

CHAPTER 8 — hot, drenched, and sweaty.
Tumblr media
“I THINK HEESEUNG IS IN A FIGHT CLUB.” That unprompted statement catches the interest of all the four boys currently in the living room. Soobin looks up from his half-finished crocheted bonnet, Jake and Jay pause their game of scrabble, and Sunghoon drops a rubik’s cube on your face because you gallantly decided to use his lap as a pillow on the lounge sofa.
“Oh god, I’m— I’m sorry,” he sputters out an apology. You take this as a sign to stop invading his space. “What do you mean though? Fight club? Heeseung?”
“Listen.”
You spring up from your position, sitting with a very determined look on your face which simply prompts their attention further. “Heeseung leaves the house at exactly 10 p.m. every Saturday night and comes back at like two in the morning. I asked him about is once, and all he said is that he’s doing ‘business,’ whatever the fuck that means. It’s suspicious as hell.”
The only reason why you were up at 2 a.m. to catch him in the act in the first place is because one time, you challenged Beomgyu and Jake to a no-sleeping contest and those two are the most gullible and have the most money from the lot. Little did those suckers know that you slept for fifteen hours prior to challenging them. They dozed off at the thirty six hour mark while you were still awake enough to catch Heeseung sneaking into the house at the devil’s hour.
After that, you had more money in your bank account, and a new curiosity that’s begging to be satisfied.
“I think he’s in an underground fighting club,” you declare. “There’s no other reason.”
“No, no,” Jay contends. “It might be something else. He could be a stripper.”
A silent moment of consideration.
Then you all release a unified, “Nah.”
“Maybe it’s private,” says Sungoon. “What—whatever it is, it could be none of our business.”
He has a point, but you’re nosy and bored. So are Jake and Jay because turns out, today’s a Saturday, and you have nothing to do, and you’re acquitted from any charges of instigating things because it’s Jay who announces, “Should we follow him?”
You grin. Sunghoon doesn’t approve of your expression. “We should follow him.”
“I’ll keep a lookout.”
“Text us when he’s about to leave.”
“You got it.”
Thus starts your mission of finding out whether Heeseung is secretly an underground fighter or a stripper. Sunghoon refused to be a part of it, but Soobin wasn’t strong enough to deny your puppy dog eyes, so it’s you, him, Jake, and Jay who might be charged for stalking and invasion of privacy because the moment you get a signal from Jake that “the target is out of the house, over,” the four of you, willingly or otherwise, start to tail him.
It’s disconcertingly easy to follow Heeseung without him noticing the four not so discreet people lagging behind him. When he takes off on a bus, you quickly hail a taxi for the four of you to jump inside of and continue the trail.
“I think—I think we should head back,” says Soobin, squeezing his arms against his torso because there are three of you cramped in the backseat. “The sky is glum. I think it’s gonna rain.”
“The sky is glum because it’s the fucking night. Mr. Sun has died. Wait, he just got off the bus. Let’s go, let’s go before we lose him!”
As you stalk down the sidewalk, you can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu because you swear you’ve crossed this same path before. You’ve been here before. You’re sure of it, and it’s not just because this area is just around your university, of which you haven’t stepped foot on since the beginning of summer and since living with Jake and his friends.
“Hey, he’s over there, he’s going to that cafe.”
Your deja vu is answered when the familiar facade of The Lounge shows up right before you. Heeseung enters the building. Sunghoon knew all along, that fucking rat. That’s why was so against this plot, that’s why he refused to tag along with you. “I’m going in,” says Jay. You postpone your revenge plan against Sunghoon for later and quickly follow behind Jay into the cafe. Once you enter however, it starts pouring.
The clear glass windows of the place get stained by an assault of raindrops. Crap. None of you brought an umbrella. “I knew it was going to rain…” Soobin laments, and you pat circles against his back to apologize for doubting him, further telling him that he has a knack for weather prediction and if he’s considering switching career paths.
“What now?” Jake asks.
“We can wait for the rain to stop or call Sunghoon to pick us up and bring us umbrellas,” you tell them. “For now, let’s find out what the fuck Lee Heeseung is up to here. This wasn’t part of any of our calculations.” The calculations being either violence or promiscuity. You didn’t make a lot of calculations.
The problem is, Heeseung is nowhere to be found. You end up ordering some drinks and food and decide to settle in a booth at the corner of the place so that you guys can have a full and complete view of the cafe’s entire interior, yet you still can’t find him, so you end up reminiscing the time Sunghoon dumped your lemonade on you which catapulted your hobby of messing with these guys because they become so nervous around you it’s funny.
“Did we enter the wrong building? Did he catch us tailing him and left through the back door?!”
You doubt Jake’s presumptions, and you’re correct to doubt him because right at that moment, Heeseung finally shows his stupid fucking face.
Not only does he show his stupid fucking face— he shows his stupid fucking face on the mini stage in the other corner of the cafe with a freaking guitar. What? So he’s not an underground fighter? Heeseung leans into the mic and a singular “ah,” resounds from the speakers mounted on the walls, muting down the muffled sound of the rain outside in that single instant.
When Heeseung starts to play the instrument followed by the sound of his voice, the rain is forgotten entirely.
This is a surprise. This is unexpected.
“This is disappointing,” says Jay, and you snap your head at him with eyes wide in alarm and disbelief because what does he mean disappointing? Disappointing where? You’ve been living with an angel all this time and you didn’t know?
“Yeah, it’d be cooler if he was in a fight club,” Jake adds, as if their friend isn’t putting the Billboard’s Hot 100 to shame right now. What kind of bullshit are they saying?
“Did you guys know he could sing like that?”
The three look at you, even Soobin, and respond with a yes, a nod, a hum. Your mouth gapes. But you don’t get why you’re surprised when these guys have known each other for years prior to you barging in unannounced— so, of course they know, of course you don’t, and in the midst of all this, your thoughts are interrupted by the sharp screech from the speakers, because Heeseung has stopped singing, and is instead now looking at your table, looking more alarmed than you.
You’re pretty sure your eyes met before he decided to bolt out of the cafe.
“Oh, he’s getting off stage. Maybe he’s going to greet u— why is he skipping our table? Why is he running outside? Hyung, wait!”
None of you end up chasing after him because it’s still pouring outside, and you can already predict what the aftermath of this is going to be. Thus concludes your mission of finding out whether or not Heeseung is secretly an underground fighter or a stripper, with the answer amounting to neither because Heeseung is a performer during The Lounge’s open mic nights, and you don’t get why he’s been acting so secretive about it all this time.
Tumblr media
Heeseung wakes up feeling like shit. And not the regular kind of shit. He feels like Satan just chewed him up, only to spit him back out— slobber and the inferno’s of hell included because he’s sweating through his shirt, his blanket feels like a prison, but if he kicks it of, he gets attacked by cold flashes, so he’s in a sticky and uncomfortable limbo between overheating and freezing to fucking death.
His throat is dry. The only thing that escapes his throat is a guttural and inhuman rasp. He wouldn’t be this sick if he didn’t run out in the rain last night.
Rather, he wouldn’t have ran out if you weren’t there last night.
Heeseung rolls to his side with a groan of pain and anguish, muffled against the pillow as a different kind of fevered heat washes over his face. Seriously. Why the fuck were you there last night? He could give less than two shits if his roommates find out that he sings Taylor Swift every weekend at The Lounge, but you— you’re a different story. Because he knows you’re gonna use this information against him somehow, just like how you like to fuck around with his friends.
Too much. Heeseung has always thought you were a bit too much for him. The time you chased Beomgyu around the house in the dress(?) Jay made is the only evidence he needs to affirm that.
Then again, maybe he shouldn’t have bolted out like that immediately after meeting your eyes. You already suspect that you gross him out (which, by the way, couldn’t be more wrong) for always running away from the threat of skin-to-skin contact with you. Why was it raining when it’s still summer, anyway? It’s like that night was a curse made especially for him.
He curls up further into a ball, hoping you just forget about it all and don’t question him about it.
Yet the very opposite happens because what interrupts his spiraling thoughts is the sound of your voice— already threatening a wave of torment.
“Oh, god. You’re in a worse state than I thought.”
Heeseung regrets springing up from his bed because his head immediately gets slammed by the recoil of a headache. “Why...why are you here?” he barely scratches out. You’re by the doorframe, arms crossed and eyes laced with pity. He didn’t even hear the door opening.
“Jake told me about your illness,” you say, walking over to the side of his bed and Heeseung flinches back the moment you set yourself down on the mattress. “He said you have a chronic case of bitchless syndrome.
He looks at you. Your face is dead serious. Heeseung feels a drop of sweat trickling down his neck, then you break into that devious smile of yours and laugh out a grin.
“Kidding. Jake would never say that. He told me you were sick and needed someone to nurse you up, so here I am.”
Holy shit. Heeseung lets out a breath, nearly teetering off his bed to maintain a comfortable enough distance from your overwhelming presence. “Why—” some throat phlegm cuts him off. He lets out a violent cough before reclaiming his voice. “Why you? I—I mean, why did Jake ask you?”
“Ouch?” you remark. “No one else is around. Jake’s out hiking, apparently. Sunghoon’s covering someone’s shift. Beomgyu’s obviously still at his parents. Jay says he’s out on a mission, and Soobin left the house with a giant backpack. I was too afraid to ask. Anyway, I know my very physical presence disgusts you, but deal with it for now, you goober. You look like hell.”
“That’s— that’s not—” You take this opportunity to pull his sweaty blanket off in one swift movement. “That’s not it! You don’t— don’t disgust me, I’m just— you know—”
“I know, I just wanted to fuck with you.”
You’re grinning. You haphazardly fold the sheet before throwing it down to the foot of the bed, sitting over it. Heeseung feels the blood drain from his face— “Anyway, sit up and let me feel you up,” —only for the blood to shoot right back up and nearly knocks him out unconscious. “Feel your temperature up, perv. I’m not taking advantage of a sick man. C’mere, let me see how sick you are.”
Heeseung, however, still has enough marbles to quickly evade your incoming hand. He swerves to the right. You blink at him, arm reaching out to thin air, before trying again, only for Heeseung to swat your hand away with gritted teeth and fearing for his life. “S—sorry,” he chokes out. He sees the glint in your eyes. Crap. He shouldn’t have done that.
“For fuck’s sake, just let me check your temperature— Heeseung! What the hell?!”
“Just—just leave me alone!”
Earlier, Heeseung thought he was about to die. He didn’t think he had enough strength to fight for his life as he squirms underneath you on the bed, driven solely by the desire to protect his fucking pride because there’s no way in hell he’s letting you touch him when he’s all gross and sweaty and gross from the fever. There’s no way in hell he’s letting that happen.
“What are you—”
He yanks out his blanket from underneath you, causing you to roll of his bed and he throws the sheet over his red, hot, and burning face because holy fuck. Holy shit. That was a close call.
When he peeks out from the blanket, Heeseung instantaneously feels a threat to his life.
You’re glaring at him. You look like you want to skin him alive and he gulps and nudges himself away, ass nearly falling off the bed when you get up from the floor and dust yourself off. “Okay,” you huff. “Fine. Have it your way. Die from a heatstroke, or whatever the fuck. I’ll be downstairs if you need me, and if you do, I’m expecting you to get down on your knees and beg because every time you’ve swatted my hand away was an additional jab at my pride.”
Okay, damn. You leave his room, not without slamming his door close to emphasize your anger, and on top of feeling like absolute crap, Heeseung now also feels guilty as hell.
“Fuck,” he rasps out. It’s not like he’s doing it out of malice, or hate, or because he thinks you’re a germ that he cannot touch, like you always accuse him with. Heeseung still remembers how his whole no touching quirk started: sixteen years-old, when Heeseung finally mustered the courage to hold his first girlfriend’s hand, only for her to laugh and joke and pull away while saying, “ew, gross. Your hand is all sweaty.”
Twenty-two year old Heeseung has been traumatized to this very day.
Especially now when he’s all disgusting and icky and very much ew and gross because of his fever. Stupid, he knows, but the last thing he’d want to see is a disgusted grimace from your face the moment the back of your hand presses against his damp and sticky, sickness-induced forehead. However, it seems like he’s been inflicting to you the very injury he’s been trying to protect himself by constantly avoiding the threat of contact of your skin against his.
Stupid. It’s really stupid.
But he can’t avoid dehydration by simply ignoring the dryness of his mouth. With much struggle, Heeseung forces himself out of the bed, despairing the amount of stairs he has to climb down— and the suggestion of calling for you help does tease his brain for a split second, but decides against it with a shake of his head as he continues the awful trip to the living room, body weighing thirty times heavier, and skull feeling like it’s about to crack itself open.
The problem is, his skull does almost end up getting cracked open. Because as he’s finally nearing the bottom floor, he misses a step, causing him to hit the ground with a harsh thud.
“Ugh,” he grunts, pushing himself with his forearms, but he stops, nearly face planting into the floor once more because you’re there, you’re walking up to him, looking down at him, and holding a cold and refreshing glass of water above his head like some sort of fucked up display of powerplay against a sick and thirsty man.
“Need any help?” you hum.
“I’m fine,” Heeseung tries once more to get up only to feel the nausea rise up to his head, and he stops, pauses, and decides that the floor is more comfortable after all. He looks up at you. “Can I...can I get a sip from your glass?”
There’s a glint in your eyes. You crouch down. “Sorry, what was that?”
Are you enjoying this? Do you like watching him in pain? (Likely answer is yes because you yourself have admitted that you enjoy their suffering and torment). “Water,” he rasps out. “Can I drink some of your water?”
“This?” You swirl the glass in your hand, ice clacking against the crystal, before taking a long, tortuous sip on the straw (why does it have a straw?) Heeseung swallows down his spit. “Say please,” you say with a smile. Heeseung chokes on said fucking spit and hacks out a cough because you’re fucking insane.
He feels his face grow hotter. And it’s definitely not just from the fever.
“P—please, give me some of your water.”
You don’t prolong his agony any further and hand him over the glass.
“Need any help getting up?” you ask as you watch him agonizingly sit up against the bottom steps and toss down the water into his throat in one shot as if it was at a company dinner. He wipes his lips with the back of his hand and feels your disappointed stare pricking his conscience. “I can’t help you unless you ask me to, Heeseung.”
He frowns, deflating. “But I’m all gross and sweaty.”
The last thing he expects you to do is to roll your eyes at him and stand up with an arm stretched out.
And the next thing he knows is that you’re lugging him over to the couch, an arm around his waist, his around your shoulder, and you set him down the cushions with a grunt. “Jeez, I’m not made for manhandling men,” you say, very dubiously. “Lie down.” And when he doesn’t lie down, wide-eyed and unresponsive, you poke his forehead and he tips back, falling into the couch.
What…what is going on...
“You know, I’m very tempted to ask you to take your shirt off just to laugh at your reaction, but you actually look like you’re about to die, so I decided against it. Aren’t I sweet?”
You’re back with a basin and some towels (when did you disappear?) and Heeseung’s brain starts malfunctioning, growing dizzier and dizzier by the second when you touch his jaw, damp towel wiping off the sweat coating his face and neck and he feels his throat tightening. “Christ. I think your temp is over forty degrees, my guy,” you say, squeezing the towel over the basin. “Hello? Heeseung? What the hell, did you catch Sunghoon’s disease? Are you unable to talk to me now, too?”
“It’s—it’s not that,” he chokes out. He’s about to justify himself, but you press your palm against his forehead, cutting off all the oxygen pipes leading up to his brain, and he feels like passing the fuck out.
Shit. Shit. Holy shit.
“Ah,” you say. “You’re not running away.”
He’s not. He’s not running away. But he feels a different sort of problem coming up.
“I think I’m gonna throw up.”
You blink at him. This doesn’t help his case at all.
“Wow, this is an upgrade,” you say from the other side of the bathroom door while Heeseung pukes his guts out into the toilet. Heavy metal playing from his phone is trying to block the noises out. He’s heaving over the bowl and wants to kill himself from embarrassment. “Now my very presence makes you vomit. I’m sorry for everything so far.”
There’s a flush. The music stops. Heeseung cracks the door open and you pass him a glass of water without some bedroom-esque powerplay this time. “Seriously, why did you run off into the rain last night? Look where it got you.” It’s a shocker that you haven’t told him he’s gross yet. You’re standing there in front of the bathroom and in front of the mess of his post-vomit presence, and all you’re doing is looking at him in worry.
“I wasn’t expecting you guys to be there,” he says, still sounding like death, and you take the now empty glass from him and head over to the kitchen, pointing at his makeshift deathbed on the couch.
“I wasn’t expecting you to give Mariah Carey a run for her money, either.” After you place the glass into the sink, you’re back to the living room. He’s down on the sofa, eyelids heavy, unable to say or do anything when you push back his hair to place a damp towel on his forehead. “Like damn, I knew you guys have known each other for a while now, but I totally felt like an outsider when I was the only one surprised to hear you sing.”
You’re not making fun of him. You don’t make a comment about how sticky his skin feels or how gross his sweat-drenched shirt is.
“I like your voice. Too bad it sounds like shit right now, but you should let me hear you again once you feel better.” The doorbell rings. “Oh, right, I ordered some porridge. You can feed yourself, right? Hold on, let me get it.”
He hears your footsteps padding across the floor, unable to find the strength to open his eyes as the coolness of the cloth seeps into his forehead. Heeseung has always thought you were a bit too much— case in point, everything that just happened and all the other times you’ve teased, tormented, and actively tortured to the point of tears all the inhabitants of this god forsaken house.
Yet it is also your excessive nature that has let Sunghoon speak more than five words around you, that has stopped Beomgyu from hermitting in his room twenty-four-seven, that has helped Soobin and Jay in two very important instances this summer, and has allowed Jake to offer you a spot in their lives after leaving that room on the third floor empty for a good two years.
“Fuck, I can’t believe they left me behind with a sick man when I can barely even take care of myself.”
You’re back. He opens his eyes and tries to lift himself up but his body is way too heavy. “Uh,” he says. “Can you…please…open the container for me?” He doesn’t miss your amused fucking grin when he mumbles out the please.
“Ah. Open up.”
Heeseung has always felt you were too much. Maybe it’s his fever talking, maybe it’s not, but maybe too much exactly what he needs right now.

Chapter 2 : Unlucky In Love
You hate Monday, I mean who doesn't! Waking up in the morning is the worst and when you can't enjoy the Sunday because of all the homework and the assignments your teacher asked you to do is even more worse. But then you didn't hate school , you didn't love it either.
You took a deep breath and then entered your classroom. You have gotten familiar with your classmates in the last 2 months and you made a lot of friends. There were 3 girls in your class, who became your close friends, Kang Seoyun, Kim Hayun and Yang Nari.
Though you love your new friends a lot, it didn't stop you from missing Sunoo like crazy, you missed his company a lot, even though you both texted each other everyday, you still felt incomplete.
"Y/n! Come sit with me!" Seoyun shouted. You nodded immediately and took the seat beside her.
"Did you do the math homework?" Hayun asked.
"Yeah, it was pretty easy tho" You gave her your copy.
"I'm just dumb I guess" Hayun was scanning through your copy looking impressed.
Soon the class begins, first literature, then Art, then Mathematics.
"I hope everyone has completed their homework, if you haven't, please get up and go out of my class" Mr.Kim said.
"I hate Mr.Kim so much" Seoyun whispered into your ear. You agreed with her.
"Miss Song Yn and Mr.Park Sunghoon , why don't you do the equations on the board? Let's see how fast you can solve the equations?"
Sunghoon and Jay are from the same friend group and it seems that they are pretty close, they always stick together. Jay is a member of the school football team whereas Sunghoon is in the Basketball team. So practice is the only time then they are not together (yes u might third wheel later)
You got up from your seat. And Sunghoon is one of the Class toppers. Fuck. You are so doomed. You got up from your seat, took a chalk and started analysing the equation. Sunghoon did the same. You started solving the equation and peeked at what Sunghoon was doing, he hasn't even started yet! You will definitely complete it faster than him.
" Sir I have completed the equation! " Sunghoon said.
What the HELL!! how did he solve it do fast, you are only half way way done.
"Well done Sunghoon, you always reach my expectations!" Mr. Kim patted Sunghoon on the back.
"I'm done too!" You huddled back to your seat.
The class got over soon.
It was lunch after a few classes, hallways were filled with hungry students.
"I want tteokbokki!" You said looking at today's lunch menu.
"They are serving chocolate cake for dessert?!?" Seoyun eyes lit up as she saw her favourite food on the menu. She loves chocolate cake, who doesn't?
"Oh my god Oh my god!! Best day ever!!! " Nari exclaimed.
"Yn!"
You turned around to see Park Sunghoon, THE PARK SUNGOON waving at you. Weird.
" Yeah?"
"Will you come to see today's Basketball match? It's after school"
"Of course I know it's after school and I don't think I will be able to attend it"
"You should come!! It's gonna be so fun!"
"I'll try"
You did go to see the basketball match and it was pretty fun. And you tried something you never thought you would.
And that was just the start of the chaotic friendship of you, Sunghoon ( and Jay , he is basically third wheeling).
Sunghoon just couldn't leave you, he followed you everywhere, LITERALLY EVERYWHERE. And you loved his company, even though you said you didn't. You also got used to Jay accompanying you and Sunghoon. It made you move on from Sunoo and you fell for Sunghoon.
Then came 9th grade and you needed to tell Sunghoon your feelings and you did and he rejected you kindly saying that he doesn't want to be in a relationship right now but that didn't ruin your friendship, you two grew even more close, and you kinda moved on from him. No you didn't. Sunoo's absence was killing you but now you rarely texted eachother.
Then came two new students Lee Heeseung and Nishimura Riki, Niki for short but only his close ones called him that.
Lee Heeseung was just so perfect!! You dream boyfriend. (Your new crush) You and him had a few conversations and you were over the moon. (Sunghoon wasn't really happy with you simping over a new guy but he said nothing)
You and Heeseung talked to eachother almost everyday but then a rumour started about Heeseung having a crush on some gurl from your class. Your heart broke AGAIN. You need to move on again and Sunghoon was beyond happy.
Then you decided to never fall for a guy that easily, You were unsuccessful. you stuck to your plan of not falling in love for a few months but then Jay got a little too attractive for you. He was a gentleman, he can cook, he plays guitar, he can sing, he has the face of a Greek god and an attractive jaw line, what else could a girl ask for. How does he not have a girlfriend? You fell for him hard and that's how 9th grade ended , you said simping over Jay , Jay being clueless and Sunghoon being jealous.
4 months into 10th grade and you found out that Jay does have a girlfriend. Sunghoon said that her name is Aroura and Jay met her during his trip to New York. You asked Jay and it was true. You were unlucky in love ig.
Seoyun, Hayun and Nari were slowly getting tired of this situation they decided to set you up with Jungwon on a blind date. Yang jungwon was your classmate, he was pretty and popular, known for his kind personality and charming cat-like face.
The date was going well , you were enjoying it. A LOT.
"Yn I'm sorry" Jungwon started. Oh no.
" I was kinda forced by Seoyun to go on a date with you. Don't get me wrong! You're amazing and pretty but I don't think I'm ready for a relationship" He got up and left. You sat there heartbroken. AGAIN. You were definitely unlucky in love.
Seoyun was angry. You were crying. Nari was feeding you ice cream and Hayun was making ramyeon for you. You called Sunghoon and told him everything,he comforted you and told you he was coming to your place to watch a movie with you and get you a little distracted.
Soon holidays started, you decided you don't need a boy to be happy.
Weeks before school reopens you decide to go to the park for some fresh air. Just as you were enjoying the nature, noticed Sum Jaeyun aka Jake, your classmate, playing with little kids. He must be good with kids. Just like that you fell for him.
You spend the rest of the holidays simping over him.
Later you found out that Sunoo is going to join Decelis High.
Sunoo and Sunghoon became close friends. Sunghoon assured you that he would never leave you. Sunoo and you also started to talk again.
Just like that 10th grade also added and you successfully moved on from Jake in 11th grade. Your new crush is Nishimura Riki,he is in the basketball team with Sunghoon, your prince charming.
Have you finally found your soulmate?

Infuriate - One
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Park Sunghoon, Iseul’s obnoxious elder stepbrother, whose father simply had to come in and fall head over heels in love with her mom, prompting them to get married, is the most infuriating person she’s have ever met. She can't lead the tranquil life she wishes to because of these obscenely wealthy people. "Yah, Midget." the white haired man said "How may I assist you at this time, dear brother?" she gave a mocking smirk as she responded. He fiercely commanded, "Do my homework." she made a laughing noise. Being a real brat, she told him, "I'll help you with it, but I won't do it."
genre: Fluff, Stepbro!Sunghoon, suggestive but no smut
Word count: 1400
Tumblr media
"argh park sunghoon!" My mother and Mr. Park turned to look at me after I shouted loudly. "What's wrong, my love? what did my son do?" Mr. Park enquired. I remarked, "Oh nothing, he simply grabbed something I needed and won't give it back." He replied with a gentle smile, "What did he take, I'll get it back for you, my kid can be lot." I shrugged and added, "Oh, he took my Physics book." "Why would he need your book on physics? that's new " said Mr. Park. "I'm not sure, but I desperately want it back. I have a Physics exam in two days and I'm not aiming to fail" I said. He answered, "Hm, alright, no worries, I'll get it from him."
Sunghoon was being dragged down by his ear as Mr. Park returned from below clutching my Physics book in his hand. “It hurts, Appa!” Sunghoon cried out. "That's what you get, you menace, for snatching your sister's book." His father shot back. Sunghoon handed me the oh-so-beautiful textbook and said, "Here, Midget, your textbook." Again rolling his eyes, he remarked, "You're just like Jake." Tf, who is Jake? "If you're interested, Jake is my friend; he's an intelligent man who specializes in engineering," Sunghoon informed me. “oh, I major in med," I said. He responded, "Well, so does Jay." Who are those people?
"Don't forget Sunghoon, you need to cover for me at the company, and bring your sister along so you both have business experience," Mr. Park said. "Don't worry about me; you know I'm 100% capable of taking over as CEO whether I have any prior experience or not. this midget though.." As he stated that, I lightly whacked him on the arm, and he gripped it in discomfort while grinning sarcastically.
Nobody could have predicted that Park Sunghoon would become one of the most popular students at Decilis Academy, if not the most handsome. The shouts of his numerous fangirls, who, as we all know, only want to sleep with him so they can brag about how fantastic he is in bed or use him for his father's money, could be heard as I walked down the corridor with the young man. "Wanna have lunch with me and my friends?" When we arrived at my locker, Sunghoon questioned. I turned to face the group of girls who were ogling us. I shot back at him, "I'd rather not, your little fangirls seem to be throwing me death glares so I'd rather survive and sit alone as always." I said closing my locker.
Running behind me, I could hear Sungoon's footsteps. "Well come on I want to introduce you to my buddies" He said. "then what? murder me because surely if I don't die by you I die by those crazy delusional girls" So I told him. He winked and continued, "Well, lucky for you, you have your lovely step brother to defend you." I remarked, "You're not my brother... yet." "Still, one chance please? Neither one of them, I can assure you, is like me" He begged. When I arrived at class, I swiftly walked to my desk after saying "OK" to his request.
I heard someone say, "PSSST," behind me. "You know Sunghoon?" I rolled my eyes as she questioned. I said "Why? Do you want me to introduce you to him? the answer is no, and since I have no control over Park Sunghoon's relationships, I must say if you want to Fuck Park Sunghoon say it to his face. He prefers simple-minded women". The girl gave me a startled expression. " Yeah, I wasn't going to ask that, but since you seem to despise him so much, I think we are the same! I'm Wonyoung" she said extending her arm "and before you question how I know him, we used to work together in the past, but our contract ended, and we lived our normal lives after that." I grinned and shook her hand.
"What, you're 20 now?" I questioned Wonyoung. "Yes, I am. The only reason I'm in a Juniors class is because I performed better than expected on my examinations, which led to the decision that I needed to enroll in a Juniors class. It's very perplexing." With a shrug, she said. "So ask me if you ever need assistance. We've become friends, haven't we?" I smiled as I spoke. "Yeah!" Wonyoung clapped as she said "We have"
Sunghoon Park was simple to find because he and his pals were the only ones with dyed hair, so I went inside the canteen during lunch to hunt for him. "Yah, I'm here" I remarked to him and he moved over for me to seat down. "And who could this lovely woman be?" One of them spoke, He firmly warned, "It's my soon-to-be stepsister, and you guys better not hit on her." "Oh are you being overprotective to your baby sister" The same man said, his face looking like a dog. "Jake, you may be brilliant, but your word choice is bad, so I have to make sure you don't do something stupid to her or say anything stupid" he said.
Jake rolled his eyes as he carried on eating. Another of his friends introduced himself to me as "Jay" and extended his arm. "Iseul here; nice to meet you, Oppa." I grinned at the gesture. Sunghoon furrowed his brow. He retorted, "You don't call me oppa." I snapped back, "Well maybe because I think jay is a little bit more grown up than you and deserves to be called Oppa, you on the other hand can pass as my baby brother." He gave me an irritated face and made a punching motion.
"you know I mean, you guys fight a lot, and it's kind of sweet; I do it with my girlfriend. If you hadn't told me you were siblings, I'd kind of believe you were a couple." A boy with red hair added. Another boy growled, "Shut up jungwon, they are perfect the way they are, and they give off more sibling energy than you and your sister both." Jay yelled, "Just shut up guys you're making her feel awkward," and I appreciated him for saying it because I don't think I could take to hear them argue.
I can't recall exactly what happened next, but I do recall waking up to my teacher screaming at me in math class. "What's the solution, Ms. Park? because you intend to snooze in my class" Jake, who was sitting next to me, leaned in and gave me the solution. I repeated his words, "It's 556." "Exactly," responded Mrs. Lee. "Perhaps you are intelligent after all" she said. "You're welcome" Jake said. "Thank you Jake, genuinely," I chuckled.
Park wasn't lying; in fact, his friends don't even remotely resemble him. In contrast to him, who basically flirts all day and has erratic moods, they are more sincere and polite. He may be incredibly lovely one moment and a complete jackass the next. He experiences more mood fluctuations than I do when i'm on my period. With a sibling like him, how will I manage my life? I'll be barraged by his silly phony fangirls who want his phone number or even to set them up with him once the rest of the school finds out. Call me crazy but I can't believe why people swoon over him so much, I don't think of him much attractively then I had previously and he's extremely obnoxious.
The wedding of our parents is in a few weeks, and while I am pleased for my mother, I am not yet ready to assert that Sunghoon is my brother. After all, anybody could have been my brother; yet, it simply had to be him. He also had an uncanny resemblance to the man who beat up my crush in my dream for no apparent reason while promising me that it was only a dream. The Sunghoon I am familiar with is a spoilt rich kid who just cares about himself, which I suppose is a nice quality—but not when he has a large ego.
As Sunghoon and the guy both had a strong jawline and white hair, I kept questioning whether or not the man in my dream was actually Sunghoon. But it may have simply been a coincidence, right?

📁 … !? pairing. sunghoon x fem!reader | wc. 0.5k | requested? yes | prompt. "i wish we could stay like this forever" | note. bye i forgot how much i love him
Tumblr media
03:59 pm
there was always the feeling of nervousness when you were around sunghoon for too long. no matter how long the two of you had been dating, you still felt as though your stomach was doing flips every time he snuck a glance at you in class, or even just slipped you a note about where to meet him later when you passed him in the crowded hallways. but the nerves made everything exciting, you decided as he pulled you into an empty classroom.
“i wonder how long we’ll be able to keep this up,” you whispered as he kissed from your jawline up to your lips, hands gently gripping your waist. you let yourself relax against him as you fisted his white t-shirt.
sunghoon hummed at your statement before pulling back a few inches, your breaths mixing together as he said, “let’s not worry about it.”
eyebrows furrowing, you looked up at him with concern. “do you know how much trouble we could get into if we’re caught? my brother’ll probably kill you, hoon.”
“no, he won’t,” your boyfriend assured, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. leaning in again, his upturned lips ghosted your earlobe. “because he knows how much that would break his little sister's heart.”
“mm, i don’t know. he can be pretty heartless sometimes. but if jay doesn’t kill you then my dad definitely will,” you countered, trying to calm your racing heartbeat. park sunghoon and the damn effect he had on you when he was really close.
sunghoon scoffed, standing to his full height and taking a step back. “then let’s hope we never get caught.”
you let yourself smile, taking his hand and leading him away from the door over to a desk. as you took a seat on the square surface, you pulled him to stand between your legs. “you’re pretty cute when you’re irritated.”
raising his eyebrows, sunghoon smirked. “oh yeah?”
“yeah,” you said as you laughed, hooking your index fingers in two belt loops and tugging him even closer. “i wish we could stay like this forever.”
sunghoon’s head cocked to the side as he set his hands on either side of you. “like what?”
“just...like this, if that makes any sense. i wish we didn’t have to worry about what my brother or anyone else thought. i wish i could show you off and hold your hand in public. maybe that’d get those stupid girls to stop flirting with you in front of me,” you said, scoffing and shaking your head after the last part.
“that would be nice, wouldn’t it?” sunghoon sighed with a lopsided grin. his smile faltered, though, when he truly realized how right you were about your relationship. the two of you had decided to keep your...intimacy a secret from those around you in fear of what your families and friends thought since the two of you were supposed “enemies.” little did they know you both tongued each other down any chance you could get.
“even if we have to keep this up forever, though, i’m just glad i get to have you, sunghoon, despite us having to put on the façade of us hating each other,” you told him truthfully.
sunghoon’s eyes darted across every aspect of your face, the glint in his eyes making it obvious how much he was admiring you. after a few seconds of silence, he said, “me too, doll.”

heeseung
just looking at the boy like "😀" with just the intent to punch the man (jk he won't)
stares at the boy while he's flirting with you
he'll then wrap his arm around you
"uhm, so y/n who is he?" "i'm their boyfriend :)"
the boy will back away and like- bid his goodbye's peacefully
"tch those aren't even your favorite flowers" you'll hear him say while you looked at the flowers
"i'll get you better flowers" "aw, hee, you don't have to"
yeah he buys flowers for you the next day
jay
my man already wants to fight /j
but yeah, he'll let the boy talk to you and stuff
but when he hears the little cheesy pick-up lines and flowers his eyes will widen
"i don't think you've been informed- but y/n has a boyfriend" "yeah, this is jay, my boyfriend- uh yeah thanks for the flowers i guess?"
lowkey is annoyed that you accepted the flowers
"why did you take the flowers?" "it would be a waste y'know? plus you're the only man i love, don't worry babe"
tells you that you really need to start telling people you have a boyfriend
jake
has a very judging look on his face when you accept the flowers
the flowers were pretty he's not lying
then you'll hear him say "i give you prettier flowers"
lowkey jealous
you reassure hime though, that you don't like the boy
"don't worry, i told that guy i have a boyfriend" "they better not be flirting with you the next time-"
totally might buy you a gift the next day
please he looks so competitive for no reason
sunghoon
also has a very judging look on his face
when the boy leaves after a good minute of trying to flirt with you but stops once you say you have a boyfriend
"oh look they even gave chocolates!" "throw them away, i'll give you better once"
i don't think he's the type to get really really jealous
maybe this time, he'd want to give you something nicer lol
"are you jealous, hoon?" "no? why would i? i'm better looking than him babe, so why would i be jealous?"
he has a point
sunoo
rolls his eyes at the boy
"uh and you are?" "y/n's boyfriend :)"
also has the intent to punch the boy but he doesn't
judges the boy as well lol
he isn't jealous though
i don't think he'd make a big deal with it
you'll then hear him say "i look better than him, why should i bother?"
jungwon
no because i feel like he'll hide the fact that he's kind of jealous because a boy gave you flowers
"uh- sorry, i have a boyfriend" he'll hear you say that then his face will light up
you assure him though that the boy is not going to do that again
yeah he doesn't like the boy either so
"i don't like them :/" "yeah, i don't like them at all too, the only person i like is you" "you're so cheesy, y/n"
ni-ki
stares at the boy so he feels uncomfy and stops flirting with you
but the flowers are still in your hand and he's like ">:(("
"that guy is bad at flirting ew"
goes on and says how he's better lol
isn't that jealous
you tell the boy that you have a boyfriend though so he stops and riki is there like "yeah i'm the bf >:(("
"these aren't even my favorite (flower) :/" *in a soft tone* "want me to buy you you favorites?" 🥺

[12:24 am] — park sunghoon. best friends to lovers. fluff. (0.8k words)
Tumblr media
It’s past midnight.
Sunghoon’s room is pitch black apart from the silver glow the moon had to offer, seeping through the silted space of his windows.
Late hours like these are reserved for dreams and false realities and the comfort of your bed, and yet here you were, sitting on Sunghoon’s kitchen counter, cold marble under your legs that make you shiver just a little.
The kitchen’s cold aside from the heat from the to-be midnight meal that was drizzling on the pan. You’ve been sitting there for a while now, shuffling through ingredients to hand them to your self-proclaimed chef and best friend, Park Sunghoon.
Something tells you you’ll be awake for hours more.
And for a moment, it’s silent (aside from the sizzling and occasional flips of the omelette he was making). You don’t really need to say anything — you find that you don’t have to, somehow it’s always easier with each other.
You move as if the universe had crafted the world for only the two of you. You don’t know when you’d learned of each other’s mannerisms, but somewhere along your friendship (and the quiet tiptoeing of something more), you’d come to the point where you don’t need to tell each other what to do.
You’ve taught each other secret languages and signs you couldn’t speak with anyone else.
He gets the eggs. You grab the bowl. He holds his hand out for the fork he knows you have, and when you don’t give it to him in record time, there’s momentary teasing and laughing. He stirs the eggs, you’re setting up the pan. And yet no words were exchanged — just radio silence, static whizzing through the air.
Neither of you mind.
And it’s pure bliss that you’ve come to a point in your friendship where slipping between lazy laughter and completing each other’s actions is so easy.
“You smell that?” His chin’s resting on your shoulder with a mischievous grin, trying to waft the air in your direction. You try to sniff out what smell he could’ve possibly meant. It’s just the smell of egg, but Sunghoon finds a way to exaggerate it. “It smells like you’re about to eat the best meal you’ll ever have in your life.”
He stands with pride, back straightened in pure satisfaction as he grabs the pan. You don’t understand how comfort and radiating warmth emanates around him even though he’s doing something as trivial as evenly fractioning the omelette on two plates for the pair of you.
“You’re not so useless after all.” He laughs at this, and he contemplates holding your plate up above your head for the comment you made, but decides against it because he can’t risk stopping you mid-laughter. You look too beautiful to interrupt.
When he digs into his plate, you’re jumping off of the counter to look for the salt (he chuckles to himself at your need to add even more salt, it was so… you.). You quietly grumble when you find it out of arm’s reach — but seeing that Sungoon’s too busy eating his food, you make it a personal mission to get it yourself. And yet, this still doesn’t get you your salt and you’re getting way too tired and grumpy.
You just want your fucking salt. “Who even puts salt on the highest counter?” You grumble to yourself, eyeing it venomously, as if the condiment had been the root of all your life’s problems.
Jumping back down on the ground, ready to resign and whine for the rest of the night, you’re surprised to feel a rather toned chest against your back, and a much taller Sunghoon grabs the salt with ease. “You could’ve just asked, you know.”
His smile morphs into a smirk, voice teasing as he hands you what you’ve been trying to reach for a while now. You don’t give him the satisfaction of your grateful sigh. “You’re not gonna keep making me eat by myself now that you have your salt, right?”
He has an arm wrapped around your shoulder, guiding you towards the dining table.
You don’t regret staying up until the wink of the night when you take a mouthful of the omelette. “This is actually really good. Are we sure we made this together?”
Sunghoon laughs at your pessimism on your shared cooking skills. It’s reasonable given the amount of times you’d almost burnt down the very kitchen you were in a few minutes ago, so the edible omelette is a shared success in your cooking. Nevermind how eggs might be one of the easiest meals to cook.
“We’d make a pretty good couple, don’t you think?”
It’s meant to be a joke from the way you two easily navigate around the kitchen together, and yet a fond smile eats away at Sunghoon’s lips. And as you keep digging into your food, you don’t notice the way his expression softens and the slight droop of his eyes in admiration as he looks at you.
“Yeah, we sure would.”

———————————————————————————-
“oh hello nice to meet you! you’re from enhypen right? we met your group earlier but you weren’t there along with your other member jake” you said taking his hand shaking lightly, he gives you a small smile looking down at the connected hands then back at you. “ah yeah sorry about that, jake got hungry so we went to get snacks. he found out there was a chocolate fountain and he hasnt left the snackbar since” with light laughter he gently lets go of your hand and brings his hands into his pockets. you laugh looking across the venue to the other snackbar that held the chocolate fountain, you see jake with a bunch of different things covered in chocolate on a plate, he has a marshmallow on a stick and he watches it get covered in chocolate with amazement”
“he’s like that all the time” sunghoon chuckles lightly bringing your attention back to him. you look back at him to see him already looking at you. you quickly avert eye contact with light blush on your cheeks and look back at his member who adds another chocolate covered snack to his collection. “oh and congrats on your debut, i realized i havent congratulated you and your group yet” sunghoon adds while shifting on his feet lightly. “oh yes! thank you so much!” you say looking back at him, “i didnt realize it could be this successful, its such a good feeling to see something you worked so hard on exceed all expectations” you say proudly looking down at your water tracing the rim of the glass.
sunghoon watches you with an admiring gaze, seeing you like this makes his chest feel warm. he brushes it off as the feeling of happiness to see another idol succeed. “yeah it really is an amazing feeling” he finally shifts his gaze to the crowd of people chatting off. “i’ve heard you are an ex-figure skater” you say abrubtly making him snap his gaze back to you. “oh yes i am” he says as he combs his hair back with his fingers. your heart gushes at the sight, “do you still skate? sorry if thats insensitive to ask, i dont know if you stopped on bad terms or- ” sunghoon cuts you off “its not insensitive its okay, and yes i still do skate just not nearly as much as i used to” he looks down at his feet fidgeting, he looks back up “do you like coffee ice cream?” he asks with a serious face.
you tilt your head to the side confused where his serious tone came from. “uhmmm not that much why?” his eyes widen at this admission, “what why not! its like the best ice cream flavor!” he states as if its a fact. “i dont know, i prefer vanilla anyways!” you say laughing lightly. “thats such a basic flavor come on” he says with a playful roll of his eyes, “i think the term is “CLASSIC”” narrowing your eyes at him lightly. “okay do you at least like chocolate ice cream” he asks seriously once again. “i dont and i will never change my mind” you say laughing. “oh my god youre insane, i cant believe this” he says laughing incredulousy.
you two talked for a couple hours, topics changing from ice cream flavors to what animals would you want to be to how you would survive the zombie apocalypse.
“eunbyeol oh my god there you are, we were looking for you for hours” you see hana approach you and sunghoon. “oh sorry i didnt realize you met someone here..?” sunghoon picks up on the cue, “oh sorry im park sungoon nice to meet you!” he says bowing lightly. “oh hello nice to meet sunbaenim, you im cheon haneul! you can call me hana!” she says bowing as well. “sorry to interrupt your conversation but manager tang says its time for us to leave” hana says apologetically, she look at you and gestures to the other group members standing near the entrance of the venue getting ready to leave, “oh! oh my god has it been that long? we got carried away sorry, ill be right there” you say as u checked your watch. hana nods and walks back to the group
“sorry for taking up this much of your time” he says with a bashful smile, “no its fine! i didnt realize the time either” you say as you set down the glass of water that fell empty after the hours on conversation. you turn back to sunghoon who was already looking at you (is this a habit of his???) you think, you avert eye contact once again, (is that a habit of hers??) he thinks.
“well it was super nice to meet you! i had alot of fun talking to you” you bow, “i had fun as well thanks for keeping me company, get home safe!” he says with a little wave, you smile and nod and start to walk away. sunghoon doesnt want to stop talking to you, he contemplates asking you for your number, what if you’ll get weirded out? what if you think he’s a creep? screw it. he catches up to you easily with long strides, he grabs ahold of your wrist gently from behind you. you’re startled at the contact and look up behind you to see the culprit, you look at him confused “so sorry but i really enjoyed talking to you and i was wondering if i could get your number? sorry if thats too soon to say, i still want to continue our conversation on who would survive the zombie apocalypse longer” he says really fast you almost didnt catch it.
you smile up at him as he gently lets go of your wrist. youre surprised at his admission, you feel so flattered that someone liked talking to you this much to ask for your number. he took your surprise as rejection and started thinking he just made a fool out of himself, he was just about to say nevermind when you said “yeah sure do you have your phone with you?” he feels like a weight has been lifted off his chest, he swiftly takes out his phone and inputs the password, he navigates it to the contacts app and gets the contact profile ready. he hands you the phone and you quickly typed down your phone number. you input a contact name as well and smile as you handed it back to him, “eunbyeol! come on!” you hear someone shout from behind you, “i really have to go now! thank you again sunghoon!” you ran off to your group members and as you exited the venue you looked back to see him already smiling at you, you gave him a little wave and left.
sunghoon looks back down at his phone to see the contact profile, he smiles once again as he types down a message as he hits send, he feels a hand grab his shoulder, “there you are! where have you been! we were looking for you earlier” he looks behind him to see jake with chocolate residue around his mouth, “you have a chocolate mustache!” sunghoon says quickly taking a picture of the sight and running off laughing. “HEY DELETE THAT STOP” jake says wiping his mouth and chasing after sunghoon.

you finally arrived back home after such a long night, you go into your room and do your nightly routine, getting ready for bed. as you get into your covers you see your phone on your nightstand and realize you forgot it, you decide to just check if you missed anything, you see a few missed calls and messages from your group members asking where you were, a notif from your period tracker saying your period is in 6 days, and a message from an unknown number.
